Retention

Once braces are removed, Dr. Phillips will prescribe an upper and lower retainer.

Removable Retainers

    • hold teeth in their new, desirable position
    • adjust spaces between teeth
    • assist in the adjustment of the gums to the changes in bone

After 12 months of full-time wear, we may revise your retention treatment by allowing the retainer to strictly be worn at night.

Care And Wear

Wearing your retainers is important because they insure the investment of your orthodontic treatment!

Your retainers should be worn at all times with the exception of eating and brushing your teeth, when participating in sports that require a mouthguard, or while swimming. You must be very careful when handling your retainers, as they are fragile and costly to replace. We will give you a special case to hold your retainers; please keep them in this case to prevent loss or damage when not in use.

To clean your retainers, brush them with toothpaste and rinse thoroughly with cold water.
